London Film and Comic Con

Next weekend I’ll be attending London Film and Comic Con which is a two day event at Earl’s Court in London for tv, movies and comics. There will be a range of tv, movie and comic guests there as well as lots of activities to do throughout the day.

I’ll mostly be going to meet some of the actors from tv shows/movies I enjoy and likely spending money in the dealer’s area there.

Really excited about going!

So, I’m trying to get my website the way I want it currently I’m in the process of re-doing my “Me” section of the website it’s too cluttered at the moment and some of the information on it is out of date and really needs an upate—I’ve joined a bunch of “new” fanlistings.

I’m just asking really, what suggestions do people have for my website? I want to retain my artwork (need a new gallery script), retain my reviews, retain my recipes, make my website more centered around my main interests I have currently. Any other suggestions/comments are much appreciated.

Still tweaking layout - messed it up.

I’ve noticed today that my layout has a horrible orangey, yellowy brown for the content area and sidebars background—this wasn’t like this when I put it live yesterday. Then it looked like this with obviously the butterfly on the header along with my websites name:

So basically… White.
I must of messed up my style sheet some how, I’ll look at it later tonight and try and put it back how it was. =/ As right now it looks ugly as it is.

Thoughts on this?

New theme & edits

As I said in my last entry the new theme I mentioned is now live, if you can’t see it switch the skin to skin 2 (or click that link )

Any thoughts/comments on the new theme are appreciated.

I have now gone through my links page and deleted some I no longer visit along with adding some new ones. My next task is probably going to be looking at all my content and deciding what I really want on my website.

Edit—As of yet I’ve only tested the theme in Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 in resolution 1024×768, if anyone can help testing in other browsers/resolutions I’d appreciate it.

So, I’ve just finished setting up our new router/broadband from Sky… Only been waiting, oh since December to have the internet back. To be honest didn’t really miss it that much—just made job searches and keeping in contact with people difficult.

Since I’ve been gone I’ve turned 22, got an internship with an engineering firm where I do various bits of admin/office work and am giving their webpage a revamp (currently it’s tables and very image heavy), been spending a lot of time with my friend Rob, been attending movie/tv conventions I.e. meeting famous people, watching the new season of Doctor Who religiously, reading, got into True Blood and thinking a lot about career stuff. Doesn’t sound a lot but it really has been.

I’ve also been having a think about what I want my website to be and honestly I’m coming up blank. I have a new theme I was working on to go up here after a bit of “on-line” tweaking but that’s really it for ideas. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Because lists are fun—need to do now I’ve got the internet back:

Check my 1000’s of emails
Add pictures to facebook
Catch up on blogs I’m subscribed too
Go through my “links” page
Visit my affiliates websites
Visit the Q*Bee and be more active

Need new things to do on the internet after not having it for ages I’m bored after just a couple of hours.

Sky broadband next week

So, after not having the internet we are finally getting it next week… On Monday! (Apparently)… If BT will let us. According to Sky, BT have told them we can’t have broadband where I live due to the amount of people that have in the village, (?) but we had it before with AOL. We did manage to get Sky tv though.

So, we’ll see. Getting really annoyed at having no internet!

Still no internet at home. That’s what, four months now? My dad says he’s going to switch us to Sky and get Sky television back as well, but problem with that is I found out AOL never actually was cancelled so with that still active we can’t have Sky or any other internet. Mother said she’d sort it by end of the month.

Hopefully I’ll have the internet back soon. It’s getting silly.

Switching to BT broadband

According to my mother she is in the process of switching us from AOL to BT broadband so I should be back with the internet soon… Hopefully! Planning to do some changes to my website when my internet connection is back at home.

I’m not sure if I mentioned my laryngitis status recently but I have now got my voice back fully and am able to speak properly without mumbling, so that’s good. I am currently spending most days trying to find a new job.

I don’t know what is going on with our ISP, but they’re refusing to reconnect our internet! Mum’s been on the phone with them and it was suppose to be back on last Wednesday. That’s nearly a week!

I’m not sure when it’ll be back or when I’ll be able to blog properly. Really annoyed at AOL.

Just a small entry to say I won’t be blogging again or online much generally due to a death last week in the family and also due to having no internet connection as home except for the internet connection on my phone.

Christmas theme!

So, I finally got around to finishing and putting up my Christmas theme should be able to see it now, if not please click “Christmas” in the sidebar or that link. Would of been up before but I haven’t been able to get on the computer—the house is a mess right now due to getting ready for Christmas, but we now have a tree and the lights on the outside of our house.

I’ve pretty much finished my Christmas shopping aside from three presents that haven’t arrived (annoyed!) and also buying two presents which I need to wait to become back in stock (should of been yesterday).

Last night we as a family (plus my sisters new boyfriend Liam) went out for a Christmas meal at the pub we go to every year The Highway Man Inn, Cheltenham, it was a really good three course meal and a good time out together (dad got tipsy on the brandy).

Are you ready for Christmas yet? What are you looking forward to the most?

I don’t know about anyone else buy once I see the Coca-cola Christmas advert with the trucks come on television, it means to me that Christmas is here (or is very close). I’ve seen it three times now.

What event says to you “it’s Christmas!” ?

I’ve nearly finished coding and tweaking both of the designs I have been working on and since it is Christmas now (the trucks have been on television after all ) I’ll be uploading my Christmas themed design hopefully next week.

While I’m on the subject of Christmas I still have quite a bit of shopping to do but with a lack of a job (I got laid off due to being ill for months) and money I’m struggling. =/ I still have presents to buy for my mum, couple of my friends and my sisters Birthday present(s)—which is the week before Christmas… As she constantly reminds me.

Something New

I’m currently working on a new design for the site as apart from the Halloween layout I had up last month I’ve not had a new layout/theme in quite a while and I really fancy a change depending on when I complete it you may not see it to the new year however as I have a Christmas layout in mind for December which just needs a bit of tweaking.

Life wise I got laid off work on the 8^th October due to the problems I have been having with my voice, i.e. laryngitis etc. I am still under a consultant and am still attending speech therapy, I have shown a great improvement. Not really sure at the moment what I am able to do work wise as I cannot work while my doctor/consultant has still signed me as unfit for work. I have been looking into going back to some form of education e.g. online/home learning courses I have looked at a variety of fields.

Non work/illness related I am looking forward to The Twilight Saga: New Moon coming out which is this coming Friday and am also looking forward to attending a film convention at the end of the month in London which is Collectormania London and run by the sister company who ran the Hallowhedon event I attended over Halloween weekend (tickets for next years event are on sale now ).

Hallowhedon Convention

Anyone who knows me knows that I ♥ Buffy the Vampire Slayer (or just Joss Whedon’s work in general really) and this past Halloween weekend I spent it meeting some of the cast members from Buffy and Angel.

I loved every minute of it, I managed to get all their autographs and got professional photographs with each of the guests who were James Marsters “Spike”, Nicholas Brendon “Xander Harris”, Mercedes McNab “Harmony Kendall”, Mark Lutz “The Groosalugg”, & James Leary “Clem”. They were all really lovely and I’m very happy I went.

Have to say though James Marsters is a star! He had an injury a couple of weeks ago while filming and ended up with a spinal injury :( but he still came to the event and made sure every fan got their photos and autos with him. It was clear he was in pain. I thank James so much. ♥

They’re doing another one next Halloween too that I have already bought tickets for, first guest for this was announced on the Saturday at the auction they had and is Anthony Head who plays Giles in Buffy!

New theme.

So I made a new theme for the October month (it’ll be gone on November first or there about as I’m going away for Halloween weekend), this is actually the Halloween theme (speaking of Halloween is anyone doing anything special for it?) I was working on last year but didn’t get up in time for the end of October. I’m still tweaking it at the moment but am generally happy with it, any comments and/or feedback are greatly appreciated especially on the font colours in the main content area and on the links in the sidebar and size of the header image… =/ If you cannot see the theme trying refreshing the page or clicking this link: ‘Halloween theme‘.
I also noticed that my artwork pages are all giving a 500 internal server error :( I am working on this and trying to figure out why it keeps giving me it as I actually have some new things to add to that gallery, anyone have any tips for figuring it out?

Life wise I’m suffering with laryngitis (still!) and am now going back to see a different ENT (ear, nose and throat) consultant—this will be on Monday.

New phone

First new hair then a new car now I’ve gone and got a new phone (on contract with orange). The phone I chose is the Nokia 5800 xpress music, it’s a touch screen phone and I’ve had it around 3 weeks now.

I’m still off work with no voice (laryngitis) and have started speech therapy now to try and get my voice back—I had my first appointment last Thursday and have been given physio exercises to do as well as relaxation techniques for my voice box and throat. So far it seems to be working.

What has everyone been up to?

New car

I bought a new car recently and later on today I pick it up. It’s a suzuki alto Sz3 and is an ‘09 plate, I’ve bought it new using the government’s scrappage scheme they’re currently doing, which means I get my previous car (which was also my first and only car) which is worth less than a grand for two grand. Which is taken off of the price of the new car being bought, only catch is the car has to be bought brand new… But that’s OK.

Feeling quite sad about giving away my car :( I wouldn’t if I didn’t have to but to get “him” through his next MOT will likely cost more than the car is worth (I was told this at my MOT last year that it probably wouldn’t make it through it’s next one at all and I’d need to most likely spend a lot to get it through), so my parents are making me do the government scrappage scheme and get a brand new car. I’ve had my car since June 2007 (that when I got it not how old it is), I even blogged about it briefly:
This is what I said back then:

I don’t really have much else to talk about now, except I have a car! YAY ME! It’s a Ford Fiesta Sapphire and it’s red, I named it NMNY pronounced EN-EM-IN-NEE seeing as it’s number plate is N***MNY.

I’m really going to miss “him”, I think it’s because “he” was my first car… What was your first car? Do you remember when you gave yours away?

New hair!

I’m really pleased with it.

Site wise—I’m pretty much done with getting all my content back, I’ve deleted a lot of stuff especially from the visitors section and I plan to get some new/fresh content up when I have the time.

I think I’ve nearly finished everything I want to do with my website, I’m currently re-adding pictures to my gallery which is proving really tedious! I have finished the following sections of my website:

About me pages all up and running—deleted cliques and pixel journal.
Site pages all up and running—deleted reviews.
Added artwork to art gallery.
Added articles to writing section and deleted a load—not 100% finished yet.

Still need to re-vamp visitor section and get my links back up, as well as go through the coding of each page making sure it validates, has correct use of tags etc. The tedious bit.

Thought I’d write and update on how it’s going getting my site back up and running again. so far I’ve completed:

My about me pages—I have also deleted some and added to others
Re-validated both skins—both their code and their CSS
Re-added some smiles and icons to the website—this is not 100% done yet though
Starting adding Q*bee members back to my Q*bee quilt

Not a lot really but it seems as if it’s taken forever.

Life wise, I’m still off work ill and I still can’t speak—it’s getting ridiculous now. I have another appointment for more tests with my consultant soon.
