Edinburgh – The Royal Mile, Ghost Tours & Pubs

Our final day in Edinburgh took us down the Royal Mile. We got up early, hopped on the tram and headed straight for the castle on the hill. Which is the start of the Royal Mile and as the name suggests is roughly a mile! The castle was impressive up close and the hill gave great views over Edinburgh. I do think I loved Alnwick castle more though. We took some photos and a couple of selfies before heading to the gift shop. I added another pressed penny to my collection and some more magnets for our fridge. We headed Read More…

Edinburgh Zoo

Our second day in Edinburgh (and the third day of our road trip) saw us taking a trip to Edinburgh Zoo. We got up early, picked up some lunch to take with us and had some breakfast. Ah, the benefit of having our hotel next to a supermarket. 😉 Edinburgh zoo was a short 10 minute drive from our hotel, on the outskirts of the city centre. Funnily, if we wanted to use public transport, we needed to get a tram from the city centre. Which meant driving was the best option for us. But if you do want to Read More…

Edinburgh & The Castle on the Hill

After our trip to Alnwick, Ryan and I continued our road trip up to Scotland and our next destination – Edinburgh. We spent 1 and a half days in the city and another at Edinburgh Zoo (post on that to follow!). I got very excited when I saw the “border crossing” layby and insisted we pull over to take some photos. There’s also a layby the other side for those travelling into England. It took around 1 and a half hours from Alnwick to Edinburgh along a beautiful coastal route. I tried to take some photos from the car but Read More…

Alnwick Castle and Gardens

Ryan and I have just gotten home from our road trip through part of England and Scotland. It was a long drive but I’m happy we did it instead of using public transport, we came across some picturesque towns and villages. Our holiday started with a 6 and a half hour drive up the Fosseway, an old Roman road connecting Exeter to Lincoln . According to our Google Map route we drove 14 hours and 40 minutes on our way up to Scotland! Alnmouth – seaviews and a haunted hotel Our first destination was the small seaside village of Alnmouth, Read More…

Euro Miniature Expo

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that my family attend a hobbyist modelling show every September, Euro Militaire. Unfortunately last year saw the end of the show, which I’m told was primarily due to dwindling attendance in recent years. I spoke last year how there were less models in the competition and no military displays as there had been in previous years. Dad was especially disappointed that 2016 was the last Euro Militaire and the end of a family tradition. ☹ While hunting around for information and to confirm if the rumours regarding the shows end Read More…

Paris Trip – Day 4 – Arc De Triomphe and Notre Dame

Catch up on Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 of our trip. Another early start and another trip to the bakery for breakfast, but first we packed our cases and took them to the baggage store at our hotel. There were lockers which were accessed by a key card for a small fee. It was definitely worth it as we would never have carried our cases up the Eiffel Tower. After breakfast we headed for the Arc De Trimophe and took some photos, we didn’t have time to go up in unfortunately but it was great to see it in Read More…
