Dining room chairs restoration

Remember the dining room chairs we reupholstered? We finally got around to re varnishing / staining them. 🙂

First we removed the seats from both chairs and sanded them down with a hand sander, we focused on the legs, front, back and sides.

The details (e.g. the 3 planks of the chair back) were sanded with sand paper, which very hard and time consuming.

It started to rain while we were sanding which slowed down progress as we were working between showers – you can see some rain drops on the chairs in the photos.

We opted not to sand the centre of the chairs as this is covered by the seat.

Once everything was sanded we added the varnish, we used the same colour as the wooden storage box.

In progress varnishing (you can see the leg is darker)

It took multiple coats to get the colour we wanted (4 or 5), and the dark redish brown colour goes really well with our dining table. 🙂
