Halloween decorations for every budget

Halloween is on its way! πŸŽƒπŸ’› Which, if you didn’t know already, is my favourite holiday.

I love when the shops start putting their Halloween ranges out! Even more so if they do it before putting out their Christmas ranges. πŸ˜‰ Haha.

We always decorate the house for Halloween, ever since my sister and I were children. We had both indoor and outdoor decorations, a carved pumpkin (of course) and I’ve kept up the tradition since moving out 5 years ago.

Here are a few of the Halloween items I’ve found that I’m loving this year.

I’ve tried to include a mix of handmade and store bought items to suit every budget.

Embroidered wall art

Halloween embroidery art - The Sleeping Fox Stitchery

This fabulous piece of wall art is by the lovely Cathy of The Sleeping Fox Stitchery*, it’s perfect for this time of year. The colours are stunning, there are also a few other Halloween / Fall items in her Etsy shop.

Cathy is from Louisville, Kentucky, USA and started the Sleeping Fox Stitchery about 5 years ago.

About crafting and SFS Cathy says…

I’ve always loved crafting, and at a certain point realised I couldn’t indulge my hobby as much as I wanted without drowning in my own creations.

Over the time I’ve been making embroidery for Etsy, my creations have branched out further and further, and I’m always thinking of new ideas to add to the shop. While I don’t have kids myself, I love cute animals and many fans have used my pieces in their nurseries. I love color and pattern and am always thinking of new ideas to adorn my customers’ walls.

Cushions

I found this great tutorial recently by Ann of On Sutton Place for a pumpkin pillow cover and I’m determined to try it out! It’s ‘no sew’ which is perfect for me as my sewing skills are fairly limited, and Ann has kindly provided the template and a list of material sources at the end of her post.

You can read the full tutorial here.

Candles and candle holders

My favourite candle holder is my skeleton oil burner / candle melt holder, I bought it at a Partylite candle party round 10 years ago (exact). This particular one is a retired product but they do come up on Ebay. I use it with orange or black tea lights or melts.

I also have some ghost and pumpkin candles that I picked up in the Waitrose sale last year. As well as a pumpkin shaped tealight holder.

Halloween goblets

Made from plastic so perfect for Halloween parties where breakages may occur! I have the purple one but they come in 3 other colours – orange, purple and green (as pictured). They’re from Home Bargains and you can pick them up for 79p each.

I plan to use mine as much as possible this month. πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’š

Hanging decorations

My family threw a Halloween party in 2005 and we hung witches hats from the ceiling! To be honest we only had them up on Halloween night and took them down the next day, so if that’s over the top for you, these cute felt decorations would be a great alternative. They’d look great hung from a mantlepiece or door handles.

Oh, and here’s the proof about the aforementioned witches hats. πŸ˜‰ … and me with cat ears! Please excuse the out of focus mid noughties photography. *cringe*

Halloween window stickers

I picked up these gel window stickers in Morissons for Β£1.50 and will be decorating our front windows with them.

There’s also a ‘Happy Halloween’ one from Home Bargains I have my eye on for less than Β£1!

There are so many different designs, including pumpkins, ghosts, blood splatters and bloody hand prints.

Tinsel

Who says it’s just for Christmas? I picked up this pumpkin tinsel for Β£1 in Primark and it looks great decorating our side board.

Poundland also do two versions with skulls on them.

Fresh flowers in Autumn colours

Last year Tesco offered bouquets of fresh flowers in seasonal colours and each one had a little glitter bat on a stick, but you could easily put your own together. Either buy flowers from your local florist or supermarket or pick some from your own garden.

Carved pumpkin or alternative

Of course no Halloween decor would be complete without a pumpkin in the garden to ward off spirits.

I bought this pumpkin planter from Lechlade garden centre a few years ago and it’s a great alternative to a carved pumpkin. We found that the tea lights or candles we placed inside would blow out very quickly but there’s no issues when they’re in our planter.

You could also use battery operated tea lights.

Tea towels

Yes, even my kitchen gets a dash of the Halloween spirit. πŸ˜‰ These tea towels are from TK Maxx and a great addition to our kitchen this time of year. πŸ‘»πŸ·πŸ‘»

Halloween stickers

Besides decorating around the house, I love to decorate any letters I’m sending out with stickers! I have a couple of birthdays this month that I’ll be writing cards or wrapping presents for, and stickers are great for sealing and decorating envelopes and on wrapping paper.

I found these ones by Dorkface on Etsy and bought a pack to use this year. They’re so cute. 😍

This is such a great post, I love the Halloween tea towels – I’ve seen quite a few about in shops but I’m always hesitant to buy them as they’re themed tea towels, although to be fair i’d probably use them all year round! The candle holder is cool too, and I love the tinsel, cute!

    I love this post!!
I really wish I had thought more about decorating my flat for Halloween but I didn’t as I didn’t have much money before to be able to do it. Now seeing your post I realise I could have done it. There are some great products here that I should have got.

Omg, all of these are great! I love the embroidered picture and the hanging decorations. They’re just adorable ^^

Halloween is weird in my country. It’s not considered a real holiday so most people don’t even care. And those who do celebrate it are sort of making up their own rules about how and when etc. It can be very confusing.
I love Halloween so I have some decorations, like a large hanging bat for my hallway and some ceramic pumpkins (kinda like your planter) for my porch. Trying to keep it simple though so I don’t freak out the neighbours, haha! πŸ˜€

Ah such a great post Kim, I love the effort and time go into it and the mix of independent/highstreet picks. My favourites are the embroidered art and goblets. I went to the garden centre the other day, and took some photos of their Halloween display, they had ceramic pumpkins which were so cute! πŸ™‚ xx
