Pancake Day

I used to hate pancakes, now I really enjoy them, especially American style pancakes (nom nom). I’m not sure why I changed my opinion! I like mine with chocolate spread usually or yoghurt.

Today was pancake day in the UK (the last Tuesday before lent) and mum treated us to a generous helping of British style pancakes, the recipe is similar to crepes.

I enjoyed mine with Morissons chocolate spread, it was really tasty, goes to show you don’t always need a brand name spread. 🙂 I also had some honey!

In Poland they had “PÄ…czki Day” (doughnut day) last Thursday, which is a very similar tradition, a feast before fasting through lent.

I usually give up something for lent and more than likely will again this year. Most of my family tend to give up pizza or chocolate but as I’m dairy intolerant I shouldn’t be eating those foods anyway. Depending on the actual dairy or milk content in the food it can affect me in different ways, for example, I can have dark chocolate as there is no or very little milk in it but I can’t drink fresh milk (full fat, skimmed or semi skimmed) – I drink soya milk – also fresh cream is a definite no! The most common reaction I have to dairy is ballooning so much that I look pregnant!

Do you celebrate pancake (or doughnut) day?

Do you give up anything for lent?

Any allergies or intolerances that affect you?

Haha this may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between “American pancakes” and your type of pancakes? From your picture I am assuming your pancakes are more like crepes. Is that right? Anyway, I used to dislike pancakes as well, but then I started working at a breakfast restaurant and now I love them 🙂

Yeah, English pancakes are more like crepes. 🙂

Yum, pancakes! Asian-style pancakes are always my favorite. I think it’s because they’re more on the savory side and frequently have vegetables or meat in them 🙂

I’m lactose intolerant, so I drink soy milk and often avoid cheese and cream. However, I have a bad habit of giving into pizza and just deal with feeling terrible afterwards, haha. Fortunately, I don’t have severe food allergies. I have slight reactions to raw apples, pears, and cherries, but nothing that would put my life in danger.

I might have to try Asian-style pancakes, meat filled pancakes sound yummy.

Haha, I’m the same about pizza! I’ve tried free from pizzas but they’re horrid! Can’t beat the real think, just have to deal with the after affect. I also have a mild tomato allergy, they make my nose run.

The US had Pancake Day a couple days or so ago; I don’t remember precisely when, but I saw it trending on Twitter under the US Trends. :p

I’ve been wanting to try crepes, but the ones at restaurants aren’t vegan/promised nut-free, so I haven’t yet…I’ll likely try them when I can master not burning pancakes. XD

I’ve had vegan crepes (pancakes) before, they’re really good.

This is the recipe I use : http://simpleveganblog.com/vegan-crepes/?m
