Spring London Film and Comic Con – Nick Frost

This weekend was Spring London Film and Comic Con and I headed down on the Saturday to meet Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Attack the Block, Hot Fuzz etc) and catch up with some friends.

The day started early with us catching the coach to London at around 5am so we could get in the queue early and have a better chance at meeting Nick Frost, it’s never guaranteed but we’ve never missed out on meeting someone we really wanted to yet (*touch wood*). Once we got to London it was a short tube ride from Victoria to West Brompton then from there to Olympia via the overground. We got in the queue around 8.00am, it was already really long. We queued for about an hour.

Once inside the exhibition centre we headed to the guest signing area to collect a virtual queue (VQ) ticket for Nick Frost. A VQ ticket is like a raffle ticket, you’re given the ticket and then told to come back later to join the actual queue. Tickets are usually called in batches of 100 and the lower the number the better chance you have of meeting the guest (hence getting in the queue so early!).

We had ticket numbers 79 – 81. While we waited for our batch to be called we wandered around the rest of show seeing what other guests were about and did some shopping. 🙂

I bought a Shaun of the Dead: Ed Pop Vinyl figure – see above – that I got signed by Nick Frost, a BB-8 custom painted Pop Vinyl figure, a Lego BB-8 mini figure, a battle damaged Angel (tv show) replica puppet and got given a couple of free Star Wars magnets (the BB-8 one is now on the front of my fridge freezer – see below).

The convention had a prop photo area where you could have a photo with Rey’s land speeder from Star Wars: The Force Awakens for £5.00, I passed on this occasion. They also had the batmobile from the new Batman V Superman movie on display.

Nick Frost was really friendly and down to earth, he signed my Pop Vinyl figure and an 8×10 photo, I got flustered asking him to write a particular quote from Shaun of Dead that has a swear word in it (not shown in the photo) but he was more than happy to and commented that I’d gone scarlet! LOL. Really pleased with both autographs.

I also met Claire Higgins (Julia from Hellraiser) who told me about her time filming and signed an 8×10 photo for me.

Overall it was a great convention though quieter than others I’ve been too, this may have been because it was the Spring London event by this organiser.

Yay!!!! That sounds like so much fun. You got a lot of great goodies it sounds like. I am excited for Calgary’s comic expo at the end of April. Whoot! I really want to meet Connor Trinnear (Enterprise, Stargate Atlantis). Peter wants to meet Stan Lee as he has stated its his LAST visit to Calgary ever. Sad.

Wahhh, that’s so cool that you met Nick Frost and got him to sign your figure and photo! I love his movies! I’m glad it was a great convention 🙂 I’m a big fan of going to nerdy events like these.
