Mother’s Day 2017

Yesterday was Mothering Sunday in the UK and my dad and I took my mum to the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water for the day. My sister and her partner met up with us later in the day. We started with a light breakfast in a lovely little tea room – The Small Talk Tea Rooms – dad and I had pancakes and mum had crumpets. I’d never been there before but would definitely go back, it was reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. It became apparent that a lot of locals had come for breakfast there too. I think Read More…

Mother’s Day

March 6th was Mother’s day in the UK (I know some countries celebrate it in May) and my dad and I took my mum out to Swind-Con for the day on the Saturday held at M.E.C.A. in Swindon. Her choice! We started off for breakfast in our usual café (Brogans) where I had a bacon and cheese panini, mum had poached egg on toast and dad had a “Brogan’s breakfast” (basically a large full English) , then headed to the convention which was held in The Meca in Swindon town centre. It was a small venue but had a fair Read More…

Most fondant decorations were hand made (can you tell? 😉 ) and my first attempt at something like this. I used a butterfly fondant cutter and small cookie cutters for the letters (the daisies were store bought). For the cake For the cake: 175g unsalted butter, softened 175g golden caster sugar 2 tsp strawberry flavouring and additional for icing 2 medium eggs, beaten 175g self raising Read More…

Mother’s Day trip to Bath

This past weekend Artur and I took my mum to the city of Bath to celebrate Mother’s Day. She had given us a few ideas for her Mother’s Day outing the week before including Bath Bourton-on-the-Water and Longleat Safari Park and Gardens. With its Roman history and the chance to explore a new city – Bath was an easy choice. To be honest I’m surprised we took so long to visit this beautiful city as it’s only an hour drive from us. Of course this meant we could have a little lie-in. 😉 Always a bonus. We opted for the scenic route down the Read More…
