Why it’s OK to treat yourself | Shopping Haul

How many times have you been hovering over the ‘Checkout’ button on an online store or picking up, then putting back items when you’re out and about shopping? When’s the last time you bought yourself a treat?

Honestly until last weekend I couldn’t tell you the last time I went shopping and treated myself to something, whether that be a new Lush product, an item of clothing I’ve had my eye on or a new Blu Ray.

I’m terrible at giving myself a treat.

I find it difficult to justify spending money on myself which could be put towards other things. Bills. Savings. Or buying gifts for other people.

When I buy something for myself, something I like to call post treat guilt sets in and I beat myself up for treating myself. But why? I can’t be the only one this happens to.

The way you treat yourself sets the standard for others.

– Sonya Friedman

It’s OK to treat yourself.

I’m trying to learn and get used to the idea that it’s OK to treat yourself once in a while. In fact it can do wonders for your mental well-being.

Now I’m not saying you should comfort shop or use shopping as coping mechanism if you’ve had a bad day – you don’t want to get yourself into debt. But there isn’t anything wrong with treating yourself once in a while – remember, everything in moderation.

It’s all about self-care and buying yourself a little something that you see as a luxury can be a great way of valuing yourself.

So, with that in mind here are a few things I’ve treated myself to recently.

Treat 1 – Bath bombs from Cherry Bomb Boutique, Etsy

While hunting for some gifts for a couple of family members I stumbled upon Cherry Bomb Boutique and couldn’t resist their “cherry bomb” bath bomb! I’m a little obsessed with the song of the same name.

It smells amazing! I really can’t wait to try it.

I also picked myself out a Christmas tree shaped one to use later on in the year, and have my eye on the large pumpkin.

Treat 2 – Socks from Accessorize

I went into Accessorize shopping for a new crossbody bag as mine has two(!) holes in the lining. I didn’t find any I likes but came out with three pairs of themed socks.

Treat 3 – Face masks from Primark

I haven’t treated myself to a nice face mask in a while and these were very cheap at £1 each so I snapped them up.

Treat 4 – Love Hearts cupcake kit from Home Bargains

Love Hearts were one of my favourite sweets as a child. I spotted these on the shelf during my recent foos shop and they hopped in my basket. I’ve yet to try it out yet but will post a review when I do.

Do you treat yourself? Do you ever suffer from post-treat guilt? Let me know in the comments. 😊

A great post, I 100% agree it’s okay to treat yourself once in a while – it really improves my mood knowing I’ve bought something just for me. I especially love the Accessorize socks!

Great post, I find that treating myself is important as it makes things feel better, even if others don’t understand that 🙂

This post had me nodding along, we all need to treat ourselves, I find that I take a back seat a lot of the time because I’m always getting stuff for little bear but I’m trying to put my own self care and wants at the forefront as well. I love a good face mask, I didn’t know Primark done those ones, our local asda used to stock them but they don’t anymore. They do a beaut orange mud one that smells like terrys chocolate orange and it smells good enough to eat, must check my local Primark out.

There’s a face mask that smells like Terry’s Chocolate Orange?! 😮 How did I not know this. Looks like I need to check out my local Primark too. I’ve always struggled with taking care of my own needs over other people’s but it’s something I’m working on. Self care is so important.

Fabulous post Kim! I like your down-to-earth way of thinking. Sometimes I find I like the shopping part just as much as the buying part. I like to do gift shopping all year round for birthdays and Christmas so I get the experience of going round the shops. Treating yourself (in moderation) can be good for your mental well-being I agree. I’m a bit of a bargain hunter so if I find a bargain, I feel more justified in buying it. I would love to hear how you get on with the heart cupcake kit, it looks super fun! The bath bomb looks lush too. 🙂 xx

I’m the same – I’m always worried about money even if there’s nothing to worry about. It’s lovely that you treated yourself on this occasion, I need to learn to do this!!

That’s definitely me. Even if I’ve just been paid my mind will be thinking but if I buy x will I still afford y, knowing full well I have the money. I’m still learning to treat myself.

I do the same thing a lot of the time! I always end up feeling guilty about treating myself. But then I remember that its exactly that – a treat, as in something I don’t normally do. Treat yo’self gurlll

I think I treat myself quite often. But not usually on big items. I try to only go shopping at the mall every few months and make sure I really love the item before I decide to spend money. It’s gotten harder lately now that I’m pregnant. I want to buy all the cute maternity clothes but they cost a fortune. I also want to buy all the baby things but so far I’ve been pretty good at resisting.

The face masks that you bought are good. I’ve used a few of them before and really like them. And I love socks. Yours are adorable!

I noticed that maternity clothes are expensive and baby items are too. My sister uses to buy kids items (clothes and toys etc) from car boot sales or charity shops to save money.

I love socks to! I probably have too many. 😅

Great post I think these are little but fab things to just boost how you feel and give yourself a little boost. I love new books, cake and new PJ’s or just putting fresh sheets on the bedding

Hi Lovely, You should treat yourself, don’t ever feel bad honey. It is only a little treat. If I ever treat myself, I always buy something in the sale, that helps me not to feel bad. xxx

Aw these are all great treats! I’m not bad at spending little amounts on myself but really struggle with spending larger amounts or any of my savings (even on what I was saving it for haha)

Thanks Soph. 😊 I’m really terrible, even if it’s something I need like shampoo I’ll feel guilty about it. It’s definitely something I’m trying to work on. My laptop has seen better days but I keep making up excuses to replace it, even when I’ve saved the money so I know where you’re coming from.

I like to treat myself every once in a while but if I go overboard, I do feel a little guilty. I like to buy myself small treats here and there. That is what makes me happy.

I think it’s good to by yourself a small treat every once in a while, I’m trying to learn not to feel guilty about it afterwards. Even if it’s something I need, like shampoo!
