What’s in my bag? – Comic con edition

With comic con season in full swing, I thought now would be the perfect time to share what essentials I pack in my day bag. This is for a 3-day weekend convention and based on what I brought with me to London Film and Comic Con this past weekend (full write up on that to follow!).

Ticket – Many conventions organisers now accept an e-ticket and some even have their own app. However I still like a paper copy in case my phone battery dies – which has happened. I usually spend a lot of battery power taking photos and checking the convention schedule.

Hand sanitiser – Conventions are busy, germy places. From the toilets, to handling merchandise and cash, and shaking hands with the guests you’re meeting. I like to have some hand sanitiser on hand to prevent the common “con flu”.

Tissues – For wiping up spills, using as a napkin or taking to the loos just in case they run out of toilet paper – which they did this year!

Deodarant – It does get hot in the convention venue and you may sweat; I always keep a small can in my bag to freshen up with.

Water and snacks – A necessity when your stuck in a queue for a long period of time, also the prices for food and drink at conventions can be very pricey! My convention water bottle is from Home Bargains and clips easily to my bag.

Money – both cash and cards. As some dealers will not take care. It’s better to have too much than not enough, especially since ATMs are few and far between, often run out of cash(!) and tend to charge a fee.

Suncream – If you’re going to a Summer convention it is very likely you’ll be queuing outside for a long period of time, so remember to apply sun cream just in case. I also bring a small rain mac with me, because even in Summer you can expect it to rain in the UK (lol), but you may prefer to pop a small umbrella in your bag.

Hair ties, Hair band / bow, Hair brush

Power bank and charging cable

Items I want to get signed – This can range from 8×10 photos, posters or collectables such as action figures.

Pen(s) – Useful for checking things of my lists and for the signing halls. Most guests have black, blue and silver Sharpie but if there’s a particular colour you want them to sign in, bring it with you.

Painkillers, antihistamines and my inhalers

Have you ever been to London Film and Comic Con? Or any others? What are some of your essentials?

Awesome post! I’ve always wanted to go to London Comic Con, I’m a little jealous :’) I usually go to the MCM con in Manchester but only for one of the days so I don’t pack as much! However, I totally need to invest in a water bottle that can clip onto my bag after reading your posts! It will be so much easier than keep having to root through my backpack to find my water everytime I need a drink 😀 which is a lot… cons get really hot! x

I’ve never been to Comic Con, nor anything like it, but I’ll look forward to reading your review in due course! And your essentials are such good tips, especially the one about a power bank and cable, I would never have thought about that and it’s something that can make all the difference! Great tips, Kim, thank you 🙂 Lisa

It is so cool that you got to go to Comic Con! Oooh, YES!!! It is so important to bring deodorant. Even though a lot says they last up to 24H, they really don’t on a hot day. I totally agree with bringing a power bank, especially when you use your phone to take pictures. Thanks for sharing your essentials!

I’ve never been to comic con but these are great tips. I’m actually away this weekend at a racing event at Brands Hatch and your post made me remember to pack suncream in my bag!

I’ve never been to a comic con, but I’ve been to other conventions and these are all great suggestions! Food and money are my main essentials when I go to one though!

Great suggestions here! I would always take sanitizer to something like this because well…ew. I always forget that not everyone takes card at things like this and have very little cash on me. I need to learn my lesson! x

You’ve got some great suggestions. I’m definitely the person who wouldn’t think to bring sunscreen and then would end up burnt waiting in line haha

Ohh snap, was there yesterday, great fun. Only thing that tempered the experience somewhat was the lack of a/c, a roll on deodorant and portable hand fan are definitely top tips.

These all sound like great things to take with you! I especially love that you mentioned taking water. I made the mistake of not having any water when I went to a concert a few years ago. I ended up getting so hot and dehydrated that I passed out right as the gates opened to let us in. 😳 100% would not recommend that to anyone.
