2012 Goals Mid Year Review

At the beginning of 2012, I made a list of goals I wanted to achieve this year. So as we’re now over half way through the year, I thought I’d  have a look at whether I’ve stuck to those goals and how they’ve changed! 2012 Goals Review Goal set: Cook and Bake more often I have baked a few novelty cakes and some classic recipes, like a Victoria Sponge, but would like to try other baked goods. I’d also like to learn to cook. I can cook fairly simple recipes, such as spaghetti bolognaise but would like to learn more […]

Bitten 3 – UK True Blood Convention

This past weekend was my mum’s big 5-0 and, as she’s a big fan of the television show True Blood. I decided to surprise her with tickets to Massive Events 3rd True Blood convention: Bitten 3. Although I did end up having to tell her we were going so she could book the time off work. But I did manage to keep her ticket type –  Standard, Silver or Gold – a secret. For those that aren’t familiar with Massive Events, they specialise in 3-day fandom conventions and have put on other events for TV shows such as Stargate (Chevron), […]

Cologne and the Rise N’ Shine Convention Germany

If you’re a long time reader you’ll know that I’ve been to a fair few conventions over the years. But never abroad. That was until my friend Sarah – who I met through the Hallowhedon events – invited me to come to the Rise N’Shine convention in Cologne. Germany! Which was not only my first convention abroad but also my first holiday with friends. Cologne itself is a very beautiful city, the cathedral, the dock lands, the gardens, the fountains! I was only there a short time but I fell in love with this city. I went to Cologne with […]

24 hours in Gdansk and Sopot – Poland

Last month I took my first trip alone, on a plane, to Poland! Honestly, I was really nervous about the trip, having never traveled alone before. But especially because I don’t know much of the language (other than hello and goodbye), although Artur assured me most people would understand what I said if I spoke to them in English and, most did, though it took a few attempts. We had 24 hours in Gdansk and the nearby sea town of Sopot, before heading to Artur’s hometown of Zielona Gora the next day (more on that later). To make sure we […]

Motorbike cake

One of my goals this year was to bake more often and I’ve been trying my hand at novelty cakes recently. My first attempt was a snooker table cake for my friends birthday, followed by a penguin design for Christmas last year. Both were simple sponge cake recipes with fondant decorations. The motorbike cake (shown below) was made for Artur’s birthday back in May and is my latest novelty cake. Although I cheated a little and bought the edible motorbike decoration after a few failed attempts at assembling my own! But I’m hoping to work on my fondant decorations for […]

Lifestyle Goals For 2012

Happy New Year! 🙂 I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Ours was fairly quiet – we had Christmas Day and Boxing Day at my parents, exchanged gifts, and ate way too much food! So the usual then, lol… Doesn’t everyone over indulge at Christmas though? Like previous years, I decided to start the year off by writing down my goals for the coming year, although some of these won’t necessarily be completed within 2012 as they’re more long term goals. 2012 Goal Setting Cook and Bake more often I have baked a few novelty cakes and some classic recipes, […]
