Last month I went to my first comic con convention: The Spring Memorabilia show. Which is a general signing event / collectables show held twice a year in Birmingham (UK) at the NEC.
As this was our first convention we weren’t too sure what to expect having only attended fandom specific ones before. This one was a lot different! One, it was a larger and two, there were more actors and actresses to meet.
The main person I wanted to chat to was Colin Baker from Doctor Who. He was so lovely when we met him at Dalek Invasion last August that I was looking forward to seeing him again.
We had a lovely chat and he said he recognised us from the Dalek Invasion event last year. Which was lovely to hear! 😊 I got an autographed photo signed by him and my dad snapped a couple of photos.
What I loved most about this show (compared to fandom specific ones) was the dealers room. There were so many collectables on offer and I came away with a large selection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer figures. 💗
Besides the dealers room I was very impressed by the amount of people in costume, which I’ve since learnt is known as ‘cosplay‘. We even had Stormtroopers greeting us as we made our way through the entrance hall.
These two were definitely my favourite cosplays.
The Xenomorph from Alien came up behind my mum and hissed at her… She jumped a mile. 😅
Along with Colin Baker I also picked up autographs from Jaws (James Bond) and the Camerahead Cenobite from Hellraiser! Both of which were lovely and happy to pose for a photo with me.
I can’t wait to do all this again in November. 🎉
Have you ever been to the Memorabilia show? Or another comic con convention? Let me know in the comments. x
