Why I Love Staycations

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I love staycations! Whether that’s being able to explore my home town, taking a road trip through the British countryside, or even having a relaxing week at home. A staycation is the perfect way to spend some time away from the office. And with most places in the UK being relatively close to each other, it’s even easier to get out there and explore.

So with that in mind, I’d like to share some of the reasons I love staycations with you. In hope that you’ll choose to holiday at home sometime in the future – especially if you’ve never done so before. 😊

Why I Love Staycations + Think You Will Too

You’ll save money

While it’s true there will be some costs for your staycation, such as fuel, you will find it’s usually cheaper than taking a holiday abroad. There are no air fares to consider, no overseas travel insurance to buy, or hefty international mobile phone charges to deal with, and you’re less likely to feel the urge to go shopping or do as many paid activities. All of which can add up! And if you’re planning to enjoy your staycation at home, you’ll save even more.

You’re not limited to one destination

As I’ve mentioned earlier, one of the great things about living in the UK is that everything is relatively close to each other. So you’re never too far from another attraction or landmark, and you’re unlikely to need to take a flight to your next destination either.

Even just a week in the UK is enough to discover something new, from Nessie Hunting in Scotland, to walks on the beach in Weymouth. There really is something to suit all interests. If you’re sporty, why not try surfing off the coast of Cornwall or shooting at the Cotswold range?

For a more cultural setting, how about checking out one of our many museums or art galleries? I find Google Maps is a great way to start planning, especially if you use its route planner.

You discover new places

How many times have you said, “I’ll visit there, when I get some time” and the time never comes? Well, now’s the time. 🙂 For me, I always wanted to visit the Scottish Highlands, so I booked a week away a few year’s ago and loved it. In fact, I’d love to go back to Scotland again for a staycation.

There’s less to worry about

One of the things I hate about overseas travel is airports! I always feel anxious queuing for security, customs control and even for the plane itself. It probably doesn’t help that I’ve been patted down a few times either! I’m much happier when I’m in the air, in fact, I actually enjoy flying. But with a staycation, I don’t need to worry about so many queues. I can simply get in my car and go. 🙂 And not worry I’ve left my passport at home either.

Staycations can be so relaxing

When I’m on holiday abroad I try to see as much of my destination as possible. But, when I’m at home, there’s less of a rush. And I’ll find myself taking advantage of my hotels leisure facilities, in fact, one of my favourite relaxing staycations was spent lounging in the jaccuzi at our hotel in near Manchester.

You can explore your home town

Perhaps there’s a new restaurant you’ve been meaning to try out? Or a local museum you’ve never been to. Well, this is your chance to tick things of your local bucket list. For me, it’s exploring more of the beautiful towns and villages in the North Cotswolds.

What about you? Do you love staycations? Let me know in the comments.
