Cirencester Patron’s Lunch

Today (Sunday 12th), the grounds of the Royal Agricultural University were transformed into a classic, British street party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. Mirroring the national ‘street party’ celebration taking place on the Mall in London.

The driveway was lined with tables and decorated with bunting and balloons. The tables could be reserved, for a fee, which included a hamper, many people were also having picnis on the playing fields. We saw people with blankets, camping chairs and some using the awning of their campervans.

Unfortunately we didn’t stay long as the weather turned bad very quickly! Typical as the rest of the week has been hot and sunny.

Money raised from the event went to The Wooden Spoon and Riding for the Disabled Association charities. A free shuttle bus was also put on for the event from the town centre.

Attractions included a funfair, a parachute display, beer festival, face painting, tractor rides, a dog show, police dog training display and various vehicle and animal displays. There were also charity and craft stalls as well as many places to eat and drink, the majority were from the local community.

It was a good little show, even despite the weather. One of the highlights was hearing a local school choir group starting everyone off singing our national anthem.

Of course no street party is complete without a Tardis or red phone box. 😉

It was a weekend of patriotism in our house, with England football team playing their first match against Russia in the Euro 2016 games. We drew! Ryan made mini cajun spiced burgers / sliders and decorated our flat with England banners / bunting.
