Movie Night Essentials *

AD, GIFTED | I don’t know about you, but I love watching movies. Whether that’s catching the latest cinema release, binging the horror movie selection on Netflix or watching one of my old favourites on TV. It’s a great way to spend a night in and one of my favoruite rainy day activities too.

But if there’s one thing one I prefer to the cinema its the comfort that comes with a home movie night. You can go for a bathroom break without too much disruption to anyone else, you can pick your own snacks, wear whatever you like, and there’s even a pause button. 😉 So, with today’s post, I’d like to share my essentials for an ‘at home’ movie night.

Movie Night Essentials

Something to Watch

OK, so this one is obvious. You can’t really have a movie night without a movie, right? But the hard part is finding the right one – are you in the mood for a romantic comedy? Feel good, family movie? Or, like me, a horror? If you’re having difficulty choosing why not try IMBD or Rotten Tomatoes for reviews on the latest blockbusters.

Comfy Seating

Is it just me or are cinema seats really uncomfortable? I always end up with either a stiff neck, numb bum, or a sore arm from leaning on it, which is why comfortable seating is a must-have when I’m watching movies at home. A comfy sofa for cuddling on with some supportive cushions are ideal, but if space is an issue, you could also use cushions or bean bags on the floor for more seating options.

A Cosy Blanket

I’m all about comfort and there’s nothing quite like snuggling up under a cosy blanket when it’s cold outside. Especially recently with the storms, we’ve been having. Honestly, I can’t have a movie night without this essential. Whose with me?

Comfy Pyjamas

Again, I like to be comfy when I’m watching a movie. So pyjamas are the ideal option paired with some fuzzy slippers or socks. Bonus points if your pyjamas (socks or slippers) match the movie – like these Star Wars ones (exact) – mine are a little faded!

Snacks!

Like, the concession stands at the cinema, having a good range of snacks on hand is ideal for the perfect movie night in. This could be something savoury like popcorn or a sweet treat like these Rocky Road Bars by Mummy Meagz. * Available from Holland and Barrett.

Movie Night Essentials - Snacks! Rocky Road Bars

For someone that’s dairy-free, these are a Godsend! As it can be difficult to find something chocolatey that actually tastes like chocolate. But these Rocky Road bars fit the bill perfectly, they’re not too overpowering or bitter which seems to be a common theme with dairy-free chocolate snacks. They have a melt-in-your-mouth texture and definitely satisfied my chocolate cravings. They come in four flavours – original, sea salt cinder toffee, orange (shown above), and mint (not pictured). The toffee one was my favourite!

I was also sent some of their ‘Chuckie Eggs’ to try out – but I’m saving those for Easter. 😉

Drinks

Depending on the kind of evening you’re having and the time of year, there are so many drink options to consider. Such as mulled wine or cider during the Christmas period, something warming (like hot chocolate) in the Autumn and Winter months, or chilled fizzy pop in the Summer. Of course, there’s always alcohol too.

Candles

Turn the lights down low and light a few candles to set the mood. I prefer fragranced ones – Home Bargains do some great alternatives to Yankee Candle. I think everything seems so much cosier with candlelight. While we’re on the subject of lighting why not drape some fairy lights around your room too?

Love this! I’m glad I’m not the only person who’s noticed how uncomfortable cinema seats are! After reading this post I can’t wait for Autumn and Winter now for those dark, cosy movie nights 🥰

I love movie nights in! One of my essentials isn’t necessary an item but its to turn my phone off so that I don’t get the urge to check social media. Its great to be able to just switch off.

Movie nights at home are the best (and far cheaper too, I mean a trip to the local Odeon can cost upwards of £50-60 by the time you’ve bought snacks!). Our essentials are popcorn, rugs, chocolate and cats to snuggle with 🙂 Great post, Kim!

I love a good movie night! Especially recently as it’s been so gloomy and rainy – it’s lovely to get all cosy at home and tick off a film from your watchlist. Comfy clothes, blankets and snacks are definitely essentials in my movie nights as well 🙂 x

Yes, movie nights at home are the best! I would absolutely choose a horror movie, too! And I totally get what you mean with numb bum. Those movie theater seats are always so stiff and uncomfortable. Another great part of staying in! Wonderful post! 😊

This sounds like the perfect cosy night in! My favourite thing to do at the weekend is get comfy with blankets and pjs and relax in front of a film or series. I love rocky road too, I’ve never tried a dairy-free version but the way you described it sounds delicious. Yum! Thank you for sharing Kim, lovely post! <3 xx

I love that you have all of the movie night essentials listed!! I am with you about having comfy seating. The last thing you want is having a bad back after sitting in a bad position for two hours. Oooh I like the idea of candles! Thanks for sharing!
