How I Stay Organised Working From Home
The Covid-19 pandemic has seen an influx of people working from home, myself included. Although, for me, I’ve mostly been hybrid (office / home) working lately. Still, it’s been hard to transition, and I think many of us can relate to that. Including those who are currently furloughed or home schooling their children.
Life has changed and there’s a huge uncertainty of when things will be back to normal. Which is why I try to stay organised working from home as much as possible! It certainly helps, especially in keeping a work-life balance when your home becomes your workplace.
How I Stay Organised Working From Home
Planners / Calendars
When I’m on the go I enter any meetings, dates with friends, family events, etc in my phone’s default planner app. But at home (or when I go into the office) I prefer a wall calendar, so that I can easily see what events or meetings are coming up.
To-do Lists
I love lists! They’re a great way to breakdown your tasks throughout the day (or even the week). I use notepads when I’m working from home, or at the office, but use my phone for personal use. There’s something so satisfying about checking off a task when it is completed.
Meal Planners and Shopping Lists
Ever since I started meal planning and keeping lists (yes, more lists! I told you I love them) of what we have in the cupboards, I’ve saved so much on our food shopping. This has also been more apparent while working from home – it’s a lot easier to snack! So, keeping on track with my spending is vital. It’s also helped be eat healthier, too.
Stickers
I love using stickers to decorate planners and journals, but also to highlight events in my calendar. Such as birthdays, days out, important dates or meetings, or even when it’s ‘bin day’! It makes my work calendar look a little brighter, too. 😊
Preparing the night before
For an organised start to the following day, preparing clothing,
meals, and filling your bag with anything you may need can be a great help. It makes the mornings more relaxed and you are better prepared for the day ahead. This is certainly easier on office days, but I’ve also adopted this for working from home days, too. It helps create a work-life balance – especially, when my partner and I were self isolating in his studio flat!
Prioritise your tasks and time management
This may look different for everyone, depending on your workload, deadlines, and the type of work you’re doing. But prioritising your tasks and time management are key to staying organised. For me, I prioritise the most urgent tasks first – normally customer’s with a break down, or some other crucial issue. Followed by any prudent queries from my colleagues. My other work fits in nicely around these – I’ll also used planners and to-do lists as mentioned above. It’s about finding the right method for you. What priorities do you have at work? Does it make sense to complete the quick (and / or easy) tasks first?
