Favourite things to do on a Rainy Day

It’s been fairly wet and cold recently which can make anyone feel miserable. I’ve definitely been there myself, I used to hate a rainy day (especially at the weekends) but here’s a little secret for you I’ve learned to love a rainy day.

I find that a rainy day can be the perfect time for me to relax and unwind or catch up with things around my home. I no longer feel like a rainy day is a wasted day if I can’t get outside.

Here are my favourite thing to do on a rainy day

Have a movie marathon or Netflix binge

There’s nothing better than curling up on the sofa when it’s a rainy day. What better way to spend than sticking on your favourite film or TV show (we’re loving Stranger Things at the moment – little late to the party!).

Do a puzzle

A classic and for good reason. You can spend hours working on a puzzle (depending on the size of course) and I find sorting through the pieces quite theraputic.

Work on your blog

If you’re a blogger why not take the time to work on your blog. Whether that’s writing a new post, updating an old one, taking blog photos (although the lighting may be difficult) or responding to blog comments.

Colouring

I’ve touched on adult colouring before and find it’s a great way to relax and unwind, while being creative. So is perfect for a rainy day! There’s also colouring apps our there now – my mum swears by Happy Colour.

Board Games

I’m not aware of any one player board games so you’ll need a friend for this one. I love classic board games like Monopoly or Cluedo – I own Doctor Who and Firefly versions. 😁

Video Games

Board games not for you? Stick on your console of choice (I’m a PlayStation girl myself) and binge on a video game.

Read

Another curl up under a blanket rainy day idea – grab your favourite book or one you’ve been putting off finishing, and enjoy.

Declutter

Organise your wardrobe or any cupboards at home. Purging and getting rid of unused or uwanted items can be very therapeutic – I always feel a bit better after a decluttering session.

Pamper session

Paint your nails, pop on a face mask, enjoy a long relaxing bubble bath or hop in the shower. Do something nice for you.

Orgami

My parents bought me a Star Wars origami book for my birthday one year and I love it. There’s something relaxing about folding paper and creating an object out of it. In school we used to fold paper triangles into hoppy frogs.

Puzzle books

Crosswords, Wordsearches, Suduko – there are many puzzle book options available and they’re fairly inexpensive too.

Card games

There are 100s of card game variations out there and some can be played by yourself, such as solitaire.

Bake or Cook

Get creative in the kitchen and try out a new recipe.

Order in

Forgotten to go to the shop or don’t fancy cooking? Order in from your favourite take away.

Organise your finances

Spend time going through your finances, create a budget, look at where you could save money and organise your bills.

Finally, listen to the rain

Curl up under a blanket with a cup of your favourite hot drink (mines a soya hot chocolate) and enjoy the sound of the rain at your window.

What’s your favourite way to spend a rainy day? Let me know in the comments. 😊

Aww such an awesome post Kim – I love all of your ideas! We have a family jigsaw session most Sundays and we’ve been really getting into it. We mostly do 500 piece but we finished a 1000 piece last week. I totally agree you can still be productive on a rainy day, doing something blog related is one of my favourite things. I was gifted an origami starter kit a good while ago and I’ve been slowly making my way through a step by step book. Also bad weather gives you the opportunity to have a day off and recharge. Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚ xx

Thanks for sharing your rainy day activities Helen. A family jigsaw session sounds great to me – I’m not great at large ones but am more than happy to help sort the pieces. I’ve done a bit of Origami before, it’s great for keeping my hands busy and my mind off of things. x

These are fab ideas Kim and very appropriate for this time of year. Colouring is one of my favourite things to do to relax and unwind. Oooh I never even knew there was a colouring app, I need to check out Happy Colour soon! Thank you for the suggestions, lovely post! <3 xx

Thanks Bexa! The Happy Colour app is a lot of fun but the only downside is the app choses the colour scheme. It’s great for on the go though if you don’t have room for a colouring book. x

It’s raining as I’m typing this! I love listening to it, but being all snuggled up.

I’m doing what you suggested, working on my blog and peeking at other peoples blogs.

I love all your answers, but I think my favourite thing to do on a rainy day is watch TV series and films in bed.. so Netflix binge time.

Your list is great! I always try to get as much blog stuff done as possible on a rainy day, It’s an excuse to curl up under a blanket with my laptop instead of feeling like I have to sit properly at the table haha. A good Netflix binge is a must too! x

What great ideas! At my house I just watch the kids go crazy as I wish for a nap when it rains! Next time I will have to pull out a puzzle!

If they have the patience, your kids might enjoy helping sort through the puzzle pieces with you. 😊

One of my favourite things is getting cosy and listening to the rain outside. When I’m going to bed as well the sound of the rain really helps me to sleep, so if it isn’t raining I usually put on a rain soundtrack. Lovely post πŸ™‚

I like the idea of using a rain soundtrack to help you sleep. There’s just something about the sound that’s so calming.

I like to bitch about the rain, and then ignore it while I work on my blog, or read a book. Today is even worse, we have our first snow! Although now it is raining, so who knows what will happen πŸ™‚

Updated one blogpost, now going to work on sharing it on social media and on visiting other people’s blogs. Hi from New Hampshire πŸ˜€
