Today Aaron and I took a walk around Westonbirt Arboretum, which is one of my favourite places to go for a nature walk, and that’s not just because it’s a short, 20 minute drive away. The Arboretum is a nature lovers dream with a wide range of trees and shrubbery, from most corners of the globe. I’ve been lucky enough to see the Giant Redwood (USA) and the Japanese maple.
Autumn is probably my favourite time of year to visit, when the leaves change colour and everything is a beautiful mixture of reds, oranges and pinks. But there is always something new to see with each season, from new bulbs in the Spring to workshops and concerts in the Summer. In fact I saw Boyzone perform there five years ago (2014)!
Along with the beautiful scenery Westonbirt Arboretum is also home to a vast array of Poke Stops! It’s true the site is a Pokemon Go players delight with gyms and Poke Stops dotted throughout. Fittingly most of the Pokemon that spawn there are nature related too.
One of the highlights at Westonbirt Arboretum is a walk on STIHL Treetop Walkway which offers stunning view across the arborteum. At its highest point the walkway is 13 metres high and is 300 metres long leading visitors from near the Welcome Building into the treetops of Silk Wood.
There is also a crow’s nest for those that want to get a little higher in the tress.
The main pathways at Westonbirt Arboretum are well maintained and can be walked with regular (close toed) footwear. I’ve also seen families and those on mobility scooters get around with ease.
It’s the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon with food kiosks, a restaurant and a few picnic areas dotted around. There are pmenty of food options to choose from, I’d recommend the food kiosk next to the gift shop which sells delicious Marshfield ice cream. Unfortunately not the dairy free versions though! π
The food is on the pricey side but the entrance fees are pretty reasonable, Β£10 peak and Β£7 off peak. If you’re in the Gloucestershire area (or one of the surrounding counties) I’d highly recommend a visit to Westonbirt Arboretum. π
Where do you like to go for a nature walk? Let me know in the comments.

Great post Kim, and your lovely photography shows off the location well. It sounds like an interesting spot to visit, and I like that they do different things seasonally. The workshops might be my kind of thing or even just for a pleasant walk and a visit to the cafΓ©. We live about five minutes from a wood, so we often go there, and it can be nice in the summer. You are lucky to live so close to somewhere like Westonbirt Arboretum, thanks for sharing! π xx

Would you believe that despite living only 40 minutes away I STILL haven’t visited Westonbirt. You never visit what’s local to you, why, I don’t know. I’m not a Pokemon fan, although Flora is, but those trees are giving me a serious case of envy! Gorgeous photos, Kim, thank you for sharing!

This looks like an absolutely beautiful place to just escape for a relaxing ‘clear your head’ type walk. I would be going there all the time if it was close by!
