Beef tacos

I’ve never tried tacos before. Never. I’ve never eaten them or cooked them.

I wanted to try cooking something new for Ryan this evening, so I bought some taco seasoning and some tacos and decided to make mince beef tacos.

To make these you will need:
500g minced beef
1 tbsp oil
200ml water
Taco seasoning  (I used Santa Maria Taco Seasoning)
12 Taco shells
Grated cheese
Salsa
Lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onion – to garnish (optional)
Guacamole – to garnish (optional)

Method
Heat the oil in a pan and brown the mince meat.

Add the taco seasoning and 200ml of cold water.

Bring to the boil and then cover and simmer for approximately 20 minutes.

Divide the beef between the taco shells and top with grated cheese and salsa.

Garnish with lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions and guacamole – optional.

Enjoy!

There are a few things I would do or try differently next time:

  • Garnish with refried beans
  • Try the same recipe with 500g diced chicken
  • Not use taco shells! I’d never tried them before and neither had Ryan; we didn’t like the taste and ended up using the left over meat and garnish in tortillas – yummy!
