Date night at Chiquito, Swindon
One of my favourite foods to cook at home is Mexican. Whether that’s enchiladas, nachos (dairy free of course) or a good bean chilli, it’s something I always find myself tucking into at least once a week. Honestly if I could eat Mexican food all the time I’d be happy.
Along with cooking at home, I also used to love going to Chiquito, a Mexican restaurant chain in the UK. So, partly for my exposure therapy and partly because we fancied a date night out for a change. Aaron and I decided to go there for food last Sunday followed by The Lion King at the cinema.
Our host sat us a booth near the back, away from the hustle and bustle of the otherwise busy restaurant. Which I very thankful for! Usually my anxiety spikes at situations like this but it felt like we were alone in our own little corner, which was a great touch. š
Having a milk / dairy allergy I wasn’t too sure what I’d be able to eat, but the waitress who served us (shout out to Abi) was more than helpful. She showed me the different options available and even went to the kitchen to double check if she wasn’t sure. Which isn’t something I’ve really experienced in other restuarants, where I often end up feeling like a nuisance.
I settled on stuffed sweet potato for my starter while Aaron tucked into a large portion of nachos. To be honest if I knew how large there starters were I probably would have stuck to two courses! Main and dessert. They were very delicious but so filling.
For my main I tucked into a five bean chilli with gluten free wraps. The chilli itself was spicer than in used to which surprised me, usually I find restuarant chilli bowls on the mild side. Like the starter the mains were large portion sizes and I couldn’t finish it all. Aaron went for a plate of chimichangas which he demolished. š
I often find dessert options without milk can be severely lacking in restaurants, but this wasn’t the case at Chiquto where I had a choice of four desserts. Including one of my favourites; churros. We decided to spilt a portion and they were so worth it.
Have you ever been to Chiquito? What’s your favourite food when you eat out?

Ooo I do love Chiquito’s for a date night! I’ve only been twice, but the first time I went was with my boyfriend after we watched Deadpool. It was an amazing evening and I had so much fun.
I would really love to go again soon. As we’re in walking distance too, we could both have drinks. I love Chiquito’s drinks. š

It’s great that you had such a nice and accommodating waitress! That can really make a restaurant experience so much better. I’ve not tried too much Mexican food tbh! x

I love Chiquito although there isn’t one locally š so I don’t get to go often at all.
Kudos to the waitress! It’s awesome when they properly accommodate you for allergies!

The first time I went to Chiquitos was this year! I’m a fussy eater and don’t enjoy spicy food but I’ve been attempting new foods and trying things I didn’t think I would enjoy. I wasn’t aware they had a sweet potato starter though so this is something I would definitely try!
