Meet Ekans (My Lavender Corn Snake)
TW: Snakes 🐍
Introducing Ekans, My Lavender Corn Snake
Ekans has been part of our family for over a year now and I honestly couldn’t be happier! She’s quite a character and it’s nice to watch her slither around her enclosure. Although, she’d much prefer I let her escape and explore our living room a bit more, haha.
Of course, there is a chance she can bite, but they don’t tend to unless they feel threatened and will usually give you warning if they do by curl there upper body in a ‘S’ shape. Honestly, she’s more likely to slither away and hide than bite us. The only problem I had was when she was still learning to strike at her food and hit my hand instead. Yup, she head butted my hand – “Silly Serpent”.
How did Ekans become part of the family?
Ekans was kindly sought for me by a family friend, who also picked her up and homed her while I set up her new forever home. She has a wide range of exotic animals herself, including corn snakes, and gave me lots of advice about Ekans’ care.
My mum picked her up and Ekans spent the next few days hiding from us. She was getting used to her new surroundings, and all those new smells! But she came out as soon as it was feeding time – a trait she hasn’t lost, lol.
To introduce Ekans to you a little more, I thought it would be fun to answer the ‘My Pet’ tag which I originally found on Taylor’s blog, ‘When I’m Older‘. I answered the tag about my tarantula, Hermy (no longer with us).
‘My Pet’ Tag – Get to Know my Pet Corn Snake
1. What is your pets name?
Ekans, named after the purple snake Pokémon of the same name. But we also nickname her “Snakey”, “Snakey Doodles”, or “Silly Serpent”. The latter is from Disney’s Robin Hood.
2. What kind of pet is it and what breed?
Ekans is a lavender corn snake so she is a pinky-purple colour.
3. How long have you had your pet friend?
Just over a year.
4. How did you get your pet?
As I mentioned earlier, a family friend sought her for me and helped me collect her, too.
5. How old is your pet?
5 years old.
6. What are some quirky things about your pet’s personality?
Snakes smell with their tongues and it’s funny to watch her sniffing around. She doesn’t like us “smelly humans” much, lol.
7. What does your relationship with your pet mean to you?
Ekans is a pretty docile creature. She likes it when I let her out of her vivarium to explore and stretch out. Sometimes she’ll even try and go up my cardigan sleeve! They like the warmth. She’s certainly a curious creature – the relationship is far different to one you may have with a furry pet, though.
8. What are some of your favourite past times with your pet?
She loves hiding in her grey box or her tube, which are pretty common activities for corn snakes. She often eats her food sat in her water bowl, too, she’s an odd ball! The TV being on usually makes her more active, too. She can probably sense the vibrations from the sound system.
9. What are nicknames that you call your pet?
As I mentioned above, we call her “Snakey”, “Snakey Doodles”, or “Silly Serpent”.
I hope you enjoyed reading about Ekans and if you’d like to do this tag, feel free. 🙂 But please let me know so I can come and read your answers.
What pets do you have? Would you ever consider a pet snake? Let me know in the comments.

I love Ekans! I might be one of the few people in my family that doesn’t seem to be scared of snakes and for good reason! They are pretty cool reptiles.
