The Christmas Tag 2020

It’s Christmas Eve, and I’m sat with my family eating sausage and chips from baskets; the NORAD Santa tracker is up and running, and we’re about to settle down to watch a few Christmas movies. The Grinch and Elf to be specific. In the meantime, I’d like to share my answers to ‘The Christmas Tag’, which I found on Nat’s blog ‘There Might Be Coffee‘. Make sure you go and give her a follow if you love all things nerdy. 😊

The Christmas Tag 2020

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

This is quite an easy one – it’s always been The Muppets Christmas Carol. I love the music, the characters and just think it’s a great, heart felt re-telling of Charles Dickins classic story. It’s always my dad’s favourite so usually the first movie we watch together every December. A few runner ups are Home Alone 1 and 2, and The Grinch (the one with Jim Carrey).

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

I remember there being snow on Christmas Day but I can’t remember whether it was actually snowing, making it a white Christmas. When there has been snow my sister and I would go out into the garden after Christmas breakfast and make snow angels and a snowman.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

I usually spend Christmas Day and Boxing Day with my parents, and my sister and her partner come over on one of those days. While my boyfriend usually goes to his mum’s Christmas Day and joins us on Boxing Day.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Slade – “Merry Christmas Everybody” was the first one that came to mind. It’s the song my dad always said was one of the first signs of Christmas being just around the corner. And I’ve grown up thinking that too.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

A few times; one of my exes was Polish and it’s customary to open one gift from each family member on Christmas Eve. So we usually opened the ones from his family that day and the rest of our presents Christmas morning.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Prancer, Dancer, Dasher, Donner, Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Vixen, and Rudolph. I think that’s all of them!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Christmas breakfast and tracking Santa with NORAD.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

We’ve always had a real one. I just love the smell of pine when you walk into the room. 🎄

What’s your favourite holiday food/treat/sweet?

I love Christmas dinner – we have turkey with all the trimmings, pigs and blankets, Yorkshire puddings, and crispy roast potatoes. But when it comes to snacks I usually have a selection box (this year it’s the ‘Tesco free from’ one ) which I tuck into in the evening.

Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

Giving gifts. It’s just nice seeing someone’s face light up when they open their gifts and you know you’ve made them happy.

What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

I’ve had so many great presents over the years; but one that comes to mind is my Gremlins 2 Gizmo cuddly toy. I remember seeing him in Toys R Us and asked Santa if he’d bring me Gizmo. He did, and made sure I remembered the rules so I could properly take care of him. If you’ve never seen the movie, the rules are keep them away from bright lights, don’t get them wet, and never never feed them after midnight.

What’s your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I’d love to go to New York! Ice skating in Central Park, trying to get into the lobby of the Plaza Hotel, or even stay there – this is a dream Christmas after all – and seeing the Rockerfeller Christmas tree.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m in-between to be honest. But I think I’ve gotten better over the years.

What’s your most memorable Christmas memory?

One year my sister put the clocks in our house forward half an hour so we could wake up earlier! Our parents always insisted on 6am (at the earliest), but we got them up at 5.30am that year. 😅

What made you realise the truth about Christmas?

Are you trying to tell me Santa isn’t real? 😑 In all seriousness though my family still leave out a drink and a snack for the big man, and a carrot for his reindeer. It just brings a little more Christmas spirit to our house. And now we have my niece and nephew I’m sure they’ll be new traditions to come too. 🎅

What makes the holidays special for you?

Being able to spend time with the people I love, although that will be a little different this year with the COVID-19 restrictions. We’re in tier 3 and will be in tier 4 after Boxing Day. But we still have Christmas Day itself to spend with each other.

How are you all feeling about Christmas this year? Please let me know what you are most excited about in the comments. And if you’d like to do this tag, please feel free, and I’ll read your answers in the New Year.

For now though, I’ll be taking some time off to enjoy Christmas with my family but I’ll be back in the New Year with my 2020 personal goals review, until then, please stay safe during these times and…

🎄☃🎁 Merry Christmas everyone. 🎄☃🎁
