May the 4th be with you & Darth Vader Bread

Happy Star Wars day and May the 4th be with you!

It’s that time of year again, where my Facebook and Pinterest feeds are full with well wishes and Star Wars themed puns.

Last year, my family and I had a Star Wars themed party and watched all 6 films back to back… This year is slightly different; we still have Star Wars themed food but went for another film franchise this year: Batman (so 7 films to try and get through 😉 ).

Ryan made Darth Vader home made bread for today’s ‘feast’ – looks great and smells yummy, now for the all important taste test.

Have a great day everyone. 🙂

Darth Vader bread recipe

You will need
7g dried active baking yeast
225ml (8 fl oz) warm water
2 tablespoons caster sugar
1 dessertspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
320g (11 oz) plain flour

1. Preheat oven to 165 °C / Gas mark 3 and grease the Darth Vader pan.

2. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy.

3. Combine the yeast mixture with the sugar, salt, oil and 125g of flour; stir well to combine. Stir in the remaining flour, beating well after each addition.

4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and supple.

5. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume (approx 1 hour).

6. Add the dough to the Darth Vader pan, making sure to get in all the detailed areas and smooth the top.

7. Bake for about 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.

8. Transfer to a wire rack and let bread cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before attempting to remove it.
