Gift ideas for men (written by men)

Is it just me or are men sometimes the hardest to buy for? When asked what they want for Christmas, birthdays or fathers day the answer is usually “nothing”, “you don’t have to get me anything” or “I need more socks”. 😅

With that in mind, I’ve asked a few of the men in my life to help with this post (thanks guys!). There is something for everyone on this list: the tech guy, the gamer, the outdoorsy type, those who build things, and guys who really do love getting socks.

Gift ideas for men

Portable phone charger

In this day and age we use our electronic devices more and more, especially when we’re out an about. From Google maps to money saving apps, paying for a car park or catching up on social media. Which can all have a heavy drain our batteries!

A portable phone charger is the ideal gift to ensure their battery remains charged and is great for emergencies. There are so many designs available from football to Pokemon and traditional square or rectangular designs.

Gloves

For keeping his hands nice and warm during the colder months; opt for fingerless gloves or touch screen ones so they can use their electronic devices more easily.

Men’s knitted lambswool fingerless gloves, £28

Sporty type? What about some insulated gloves, such as skiing gloves, to help with warmth as well as grip.

Headphones

Something for you both to enjoy – plug them in to play their favourite video game or listen to a YouTube video while you enjoy undisrupted relaxation or reading time. 😉

Noise cancelling headphones (£249+) are a great choice here. They drown out background noise so are ideal when they need to concentrate drowning or perfect for using on a long haul flight.

Alcohol gift set

Of course booze is on the list! A bottle or can of their favourite alcoholic drink is a great choice. There are so many versions available from ones with glasses to ones with poker chips and playing cards.

Can’t find a prepackaged one suitable? How about making your own hamper and include something personalised?

A personalised glass, with a miniature bottle of their favourite spirit, and some chocolate can be a great stocking filler. I love the designs by The Key Shop 44 on E-bay.

Personalised Kraken black spiced rum glass, £10 – £15

Gift card

Whatever their into your bound to find a gift card to suit them. From Spotify to PlayStation store and Amazon to their favourite clothing store, you really are spoilt for choice. Personally I enjoy the Love2Shop vouchers which can be used in many UK highstreet stores and for attractions such as Thorpe Park.

For those on a budget, another idea is to make your own gift cards or coupons. These are some I made a couple of years ago for Valentine’s Day to give you an idea. 😊

Homemade coupons

Tool kit

A starter tool kit is a great choice for the man that’s just moved out into his own place. Useful items to consider are screwdrivers, allen keys, a hammer and a tape measure.

If they already have a tool kit, think about adding to it with a larger item such as a drill, or gifting them a multitool.

Socks

Some men (and women to be fair) love getting socks! Think quirky, hobbyist or seasonal.

Boxer shorts (or other underwear)

Another useful item of clothing. Is it just me or do men go through underwear very quickly?

Red Christmas underwear boxset, £12 – dinosaurs and Christmas, what’s not to love?

Snacks

This could be part of a hamper or a great stocking filler – sweets, chocolate, savoury, whatever their favourite may be.

Cologne

Choose their favourite fragrance or one you’d love them to wear. 😉 Or you can also design your own fragrance (£49) for them.

Hobby gifts

No matter their hobby the man in your life is sure to enjoy a gift related to it. From sports equipment to gaming, the possibilities are endless!

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

I hope this list has inspired you. 😊 What will you be getting the men in your life? Do you have any gift ideas for men you’d like to share? Let me know in the comments.

I agree, men are so difficult to buy for!! My sister and I have the same dilemma each year as we never know what to get our dad. We did get him headphones last year which he really loved and before that a telescope, haha. Anything geeky and techy is always a winning gift for him. Thanks for sharing Kim, great ideas! <3 xx

I hate shopping for men, it’s such hard work! Love to you and the men in your life for putting this together 😉 I usually go for gift cards, because anything else I get would probably be wrong, especially if it was technology…

Oh, I agree with you, men are sooooooo hard to buy for! I usually get Alan some shaving products, cologne and books. And a new pair of cufflinks (usually from Etsy). I love the idea of a personalised fragrance though, I’ve never thought of that, that’s one to look into for his birthday then 🙂 great suggestions, Kim, thank you for sharing 🙂

Love the personalized glass idea! I’ll need to see if I can find that in the US. Great gift for my brother!
