How to Relax After Watching a Horror Movie
With Halloween around the corner it’s the perfect time to watch a horror movie. In fact, in my house October becomes horror or Halloween movie month; and we have a large collection of horror movies we enjoy watching this time of year. Or any time really! I’ll find any excuse to stick on a horror movie. ๐ However, I do understand they may not be everyone’s cup of tea and some people can find them very frightening.
So, how exactly can you relax yourself after watching a horror movie if, like my family, you have some one like me persuading you to watch them. Or if you do find them particularly scary or anxiety provoking.

How to Relax After Watching a Horror Movie
Drink or eat something comforting
Drinking a warming drink of your favourite beverage – hot chocolate or fruit tea for me, please – or eating your favourite snack foods is a perfect way to calm your nerves. You can even have while you’re watching the horror movie, too. Win-win.
Watch something animated
Whether you stick on your favourite Disney movie, flick through the ‘children’s’ channels or catch an animated show on Netflix, it doesn’t matter. The key here is to distract your mind from the horrors you’ve just watched, and give it something fun to focus on instead. ๐
Distract yourself
This will be different for everyone, but anything that keeps your mind busy and is calming works well here. That may be your favourite video game, reading a chapter (or several!) of a book, watching a feel-good TV show, or something arty, like an adult colouring book. The key is to feel relaxed.
Leave a Light On
Find yourself uncomfortable in the dark after that particular scary scene? Thereโs nothing wrong with turning the lights to watch your movie, or leaving them on while you crawl into bed. You can even leave them, or a smaller lamp, on while you sleep if it helps you drift off.
Cuddle Something
Pets can be the perfect cuddle companions but a stuffed animal also works well. If you’re watching the horror movie with someone close to you, you could even cuddle up to them. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to protect you.
Don’t drive home alone
If you’ve watched a horror movie at the cinema or at a friend’s house, you may well need to drive home afterwards. If that’s the case try and have someone drive with you to relieve any post movie anxiety, and, if you do have to drive alone, make sure to check the back seat. Not because there’ll be someone lurking there (at least I hope not!), but to give yourself piece of mind before the drive home. Especially in the dark.
